Different and Better

2 weeks  till school starts! Some are happy, so are not. I am ready for it to get going again. Get the kids out of the house and have a regular schedule again.
Different, but better is the subject line today. What does that really mean? I have trid to create a system that allows you to first move better, then feel better and finally become stronger. I want you to be able to train pain and injury free, unlike what you might see walking out of a Globo gym. Every time i travel by 24Hour, people are limping, taped up, wrapped up and generally looking beat down all of the time. I don’t want to see that at our place.
Our difference in looking at movement quality versus quantity means that you get better faster.

Frances referred Terri to us and earned $50.00. be like Frances! I pay a $50.00 bounty for referring students to us. The consultation is free and pretty low pressure.
I will make it even easier to refer your friends. They can sign up for 3 Months and get a 4th Month Free.

Grecian Pork Tenderloin
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups fresh lime juice
3/4 cup olive oil
6 cloves garlic, sliced
2 teaspoons salt
6 tablespoons dried oregano
2 (1 pound) pork tenderloins
Directions:
1. Place lime juice, olive oil, garlic, salt, and oregano in a large resealable plastic bag. Shake sealed bag until ingredients are well mixed. Taste the marinade for tartness. If too tart, add a little more oil. Not enough zing, add more lime. The garlic and salt flavors should also be up front, yet not overpowering. Place tenderloins in the bag, seal, and turn to coat. Marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 5 hours.
2. Preheat grill for medium heat.
3. Lightly oil the grill grate, and discard marinade. Grill tenderloins for 20 to 30 minutes, turning once, or to desired doneness.

Look for some fun workouts this week!

Wow and Thanks

I want to thank all of our students for allowing us to change the schedule this last week. The Certification was a great success. There is another group of instructors that are teaching kettlebells and fitness safely.
The Wow in the title comes from how incredible the certifications and how much information they present. I have assisted or attended abut 15 of them. I learn something new at every single one
I love holding and teaching at the certifications because it makes me a better instructor. I learned a lot of new cues and drills to make it easier and safer for everyone to learn the proper use of the kettlebell. Be on the lookout for them.
There is one last schedule change this summer. There will not be a  9:15 or 12:15 class on Wednesday or Friday. After this week all classes will be back on schedule for the rest of the summer.
The plan this week if for teaching some new skills and a wide variety of workouts(Thank Frances). It is a good chance to add some neat skills to the toolbox for you, and the instructors to hone their skills in teaching new stuff. Expect to learn the Clean this week.
As you know, we advocate the Paleo/Primal Diet. I am not such a Primal Nazi that i insist that you must adhere to it without fail.
I really like Dr. Mercola’s ideas. I think that this is a great plan to follow. (click on the Nutrition Plan link) .
I have decided to open up 4 Private Training Slots. If you are interested here is a link to receive more information.

Steak With Apple-Horseradish Relish

Ingredients

2 Tbs prepared horseradish, drained
1 Tbs plus 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
1 Tbs fresh lemon juice
1 Tbs pure grade B maple syrup
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste (optional)
1 Golden Delicious Apple, peeled and grated
1 Granny Smith Apple, peeled and grated
2 beef strip loin steaks (each 12 oz and 1 1/2″ thick)
3 Tbs olive oil
2 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves removed from stem

Instructions

  1. Arrange oven rack in lowest position. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine horseradish, vinegar, lemon juice, syrup, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper.  Stir grated apples into horseradish mixture.  Set aside.
  3. Heat 12″ ovenproof skillet on high.  Pat steaks dry with paper towels.  Sprinkle with 1/2 tsp EACH of salt and pepper. Add 1 Tbs oil to pan and swirl to coat bottom evenly.  When oil shimmers and is almost smoking, add steaks.
  4. Cook 2 min.  With tongs, lift each steak from pan and put back down on SAME side.  Cook 1 minute longer, then turn steaks over. Transfer pan to lowest rack of oven and roast for 4 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, combine 2 Tbs olive oil and thyme in a small bowl.  Baste steak with melted mixture. Roast 2-3 minutes longer for medium-rare, or until desired temperature is reached.
  6. Remove pan from oven and baste again. Transfer steaks to cutting board, cover with foil and let rest 5 minutes.
  7. Slice steaks against the grain at an angle.  Spoon steak juices on top and serve with apple relish.

Philly Cheese Steaks are Awesome

I hope that everyone had great workouts last week. did receive one phone call from someone telling me that they hated me. As always, the standard lone was that there was less of them to hate me everyday.
I had a few Philly cheese steaks while we were gone, as well as some cheesecake. I did a lot of body-weight training and walking while I was gone. You have to be able to let loose sometimes.
We walked about 71 miles over the week.It was a lot  fun. we were able to see a lot of the places where our Country got it’s start.  We even took a Ghost Tour. Olivia says she saw a ghost.
We did make it on Fox News!!!!
.
We were able to spend a lot of time with Dr. Allen Manison, D. He is one of the most knowledgeable people I know on antioxidants and the need for them. Here is a link to his website.
You always here about the need for carotenoids, but do you know what they are for or why you need them?  explains the reasons and more.
We use the Biophotonic Scanner, designed on Nobel Prize winning science, to test a viable bio-marker of your health. Non-invasive and accurate, what could be more simple.
We will have the scanner at the gym for screenings. The scan is $20.00. Yale recently released a study on this piece of technology that stated this is a valid means of screening nutritional health.
We will be discussing more studies from here out. I have a way to improve your health and life and it is my job to give you the info and a solution.
Our best path to growth is through you, our current members.

Philly Cheese Steak

http://www.health-bent.com/

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. skirt steak, sliced thinly
  • 2 green peppers, sliced thinly
  • 2 yellow onions, sliced thinly
  • 8 oz. mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 oz. good melting cheese  sliced
  • 2 T butter
  • 1 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 T hot sauce
  • Salt &Pepper

Directions

Put your oven on broil and place the rack in the middle of the oven. In a large, oven proof saucepan, melt the butter over high heat and add hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Brown the beef really well. Seriously. Get a nice brown crust on each piece. Add the onions, peppers and mushrooms. Place a lid/cover on the saute pan and stir occasionally while the peppers and onions soften. Once that’s happened, top with cheese slices, stick the pan under the broiler until the cheese has reached the desired melted stage. Some like it gooey and some like it brown and bubbly. Take it out of the oven and serve.

What’s up this week!

There is a lot going on down at the  gym. I want to welcome, Sharon, Dorothy, Christine, Gail,  Jeanne and Anna and Family to our little house of strength. They all had a good first week.
After looking at the attendance and needs of the gym, I have decided to stop the Tuesday and Thursday 9:15 classes for the rest of the month.
I will be out of town next week so, Justine and Jamie are running the show. They will be covering all of the classes and at this time, there will not be any canceled classes. The week will be a week of swings and other fun…
This week’s special is Overdrive. This week it is $20 at the gym.  I use it after every workout to help with recovery. I also gave it to Olivia to help deal with inflammation from her braces with t results.

Paleo Pulled Pork Sliders

Pulled Pork
Large pork roast
1 large onion, sliced
3 minced garlic cloves
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp pepper
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp sea salt
juice of 1 lime
juice of 1 lemon

Stir together the spices and rub all over the roast. Lay the onion slices down on the bottom of the slow cooker, and squeeze half of the fruit juices in. Put the roast in the crockpot and squeeze the remaining lime and lemon juice over it. Cook on low overnight or throughout the day about 8 hours (you really can’t overcook it to be honest). When done, shred it with two forks until it’s completely ‘pulled’.

The “Buns”
1 large sweet potato (try to go for a nice evenly round one, remember the diameter will be the size of your sliders)
2 tbsp coconut oil
1/4 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp paprika
dash of sea salt

1. Slice the sweet potato into 1/4″ thick rounds. Lay them out on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.

2. Brush each slice with coconut oil and sprinkle with the spices, then flip and do the same on the other side.

3. Bake at 425 degrees for 35 minutes until golden brown on the outside and cooked all the way

through, flipping halfway through. You may need to crank it up to 450 if your oven isn’t hot enoughy.

4. Top a patty with pulled pork, and add any other toppings or sauces you want

5. Finish with the top patty and enjoy your delightful little sliders!

The Scale Sucks

I know, another controversial statement/subject from me. I hope that you have come to expect those from me. I tend to differ from the standard gym and nutrition “programs” that have failed to work for people. I am glad that Primal/Paleo is more well known these days, but there is a lot of work to be done.
Back to the subject line of this email. I use the scale as one of the many measurement tools we look at. I do not like it to be the only measurement of how well you are doing in the program. Why is that? The scale lies. It might not move for months, but you have lost 8 inches on your waist. It tells you that there is no change, but your clothes are baggy and you feel a lot better. You are a lot stronger, but the scale says you have lost 4 lbs. (happened to me)
Every one of the things listed above has happened in the gym. One client dropped almost 12 inches off their waist after three months and the scale did not budge. I was sweating that fact until I asked them to put on their old clothes and they would not stay up.
Muscle weighs more than fat. Our program builds muscle while losing the fat. Most weight loss programs look at weight loss only. The problem is that if you lose 10lbs, 6 lbs were fat and 4 lbs were lean muscle. You need the muscle to increase your metabolism which leads to more fat loss. Or wise you flip flop the results and end up fatter than you started.
Which would you rather be?1 lb more
The person in the picture weighs a pound more on the right. which would you rather be?
Our best source of growth is you!

This weeks special is a month’s supply of Vitality for $60.00. I only have 4 bottles left…

Info for the week

It is a wet start to the week. We need the rain, so I am not complaining about it.
However, don’t skip class because of the rain. You will melt and I will not have you training outside. Lightening and kettlebells do not mix well.
The next two weeks will be geared towards strength. look for Pressing and Squats along with Get Ups and Back Work. We will cut down on swing numbers and go heavier. Stronger is better and burns more fat.
We want to congratulate Stacy this week. she signed up for the 21 Day Transformation and worked her tail off. (literally) She dropped 9lbs, 10 on her scale, and 10.5 inches.
Way to go Stacy!
If you know anyone that wants to see similar results, please send them our way. We pay a bounty on referrals! The consultation is free.
We are having a sale on Vitality this week. a one month supply for $60.00. That is less than the daily Starbucks a lot of people drink.
Why Vitatlity? Here is a great video to show why.
I will have the Scanner at the gym this week. Scans are $20.00. There is no charge with a purchase of eligible product.
